After Learning Simple Present Tense of “To be” in Marathi, it is easy to march toward learning Present Continuous tense (PCT) in Marathi.

In English PCT sentence is formed as follows :

“Pronoun” “form of To be” “Verb+-ing”
I am doing

Similarly in Marathi PCT sentence is formed as follows :

“Pronoun” “form of verb in Simple Present Tense” “form of असणे (asaNe)”
मी करतो आहे

I -> मी Do -> कर Am -> आहे

Let us take another example. “He eats” in Marathi is “तो खातो”. Form of असणे(“asaNe”) for He is “आहे”(Ahe). So, “तो खातो” followed by “आहे” -> “तो खातो आहे” is Present Continuous ( He is eating)

Similarly, ती रडते –> ती रडते आहे (tI raDate Ahe) is Present Continuous ( She is crying)

There are few exceptions for the pronoun “You” and “They”

1) Exception for “You” : You (male) eat –> तू खातोस (tU khAtos )
The form of असणे(“asaNe”) for You is आहेस(Ahes). So as per the above rule Present continuous sentence will be “तू खातोस आहेस”. But an exception is that ending स(s) is not used in verb खातो. The sentence will be “तू खातो आहेस”.

2) Exception for “They” : They (plural of He/She/It) eat –> ते/त्या/ती खातात (te/tyA/ I khAtAt )
The form of असणे(“asaNe”) for You is आहेत (Ahet). So as per the above rule Present continuous sentence will be “ते/त्या/ती खातात आहेत”.
But the exception is that ending तात (tAt) is not used in verb खा. Instead, only त(t) is used. The sentence will be “ते/त्या/ती खात आहेत”.

Style 2 : मी करत आहे (mI karat Ahe)
