“To Think” in English is विचार करणे ( vichAr karaNe ) in Marathi
I am thinking about Maths:- मी गणिताबद्दल विचार करत आहे ( mI gaNitAbaddal vichAr karat Ahe )
She is thinking of higher study :- ती उच्च शिक्षणाचा विचार करत आहे ( tI uchch shikShaNAchA vichAr karat Ahe )
There is another use of the verb “to think” or rather the phrase “To think that”. In such sentences “To Think” or “To think that” means “To feel”
In English we say “I feel I should go”, “I felt happy”, “He feels that everyone else is stupid”.
In these sentences, the phrase “To think that” can be used instead of “To feel”.
e.g. “I think that I should go”, “He thinks that everyone else is stupid”.
In Marathi the verb for “To feel” or “To think that” is वाटणे ( vATaNe ).
Sentence structure is:
Proper noun or Pronoun with preposition “To” | noun | Form of verb वाटणे (vATaNe)as per tense and gender, multiplicity of noun |
---|---|---|
मला malA | असे ase | वाटते vATate |
So sentence structure is Marathi is kind of saying “It is felt to me”
Examples :
I feel this way / I think this way :- मला असे वाटते ( malA ase vATate )
I feel this / I think this :- मला हे वाटते ( malA he vATate )
Generally “I think this” is said in Marathi as if saying “I think this way”. So in Marathi मला असे वाटते ( malA ase vATate ) is more natural than मला हे वाटते ( malA he vATate )
He felt /thought that I will not come :- त्याला असे वाटले की मी येणार नाही ( tyAlA ase vATale kI mI yeNAr nAhI )
What do you feel/think ? :- तुला काय वाटते ?( tulA kAy vATate ? )
He felt happiness :- त्याला आनंद वाटला ( tyAlA AnaMd vATalA )
Don’t you feel ashamed :- तुला लाज वाटत नाही का? ( tulA lAj vATat nAhI kA?)
Kaushik thinks that he should go :- कौशिकला असे वाटते की त्याने गेले पाहिजे ( kaushikalA ase vATate kI tyAne gele pAhije )
He will feel bad :- त्याला वाईट वाटेल ( tyAlA vAIT vATel)
